Which 2027 Honda Passport Trim Is Right for You? RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite Compared
The 2027 Honda Passport is sold in three trims, RT-L at $45,195, TrailSport at $49,995 and TrailSport Elite at $53,695, plus two factory versions: RT-L Towing, which adds a Class III hitch for $700, and Blackout, a $1,500 appearance package for both TrailSport trims. All six share the 280-hp 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, 5,000-lb tow rating and Honda Sensing. The $4,800 jump to TrailSport is about capability: 9.6 inches of clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch and a hitch. The $3,700 jump to TrailSport Elite is about comfort: perforated leather, ventilated and heated seats front and rear, Bose audio and a hands-free liftgate.
In Brazoria County, the Passport trim question is about sand and the boat. Every trim has Sand mode and tows 5,000 lbs when properly equipped. The TrailSport adds the hitch, all-terrain tires and skid plates.

What Each Passport Upgrade Costs
From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout is $10,000. The biggest single jump, $4,100, is RT-L Towing to TrailSport, where the off-road hardware arrives.

Tap a feature. We'll show the first trim that includes it, its price, and how much more it costs than the RT-L.
What Changes for the Worse as You Step Up
Most dealers only tell you what you gain. Here's what you lose.
Moving from RT-L to TrailSport
- Leather. The RT-L's seats are leather-trimmed; the TrailSport's are HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth.
- A gray cabin. The TrailSport comes in black only; the RT-L offers black or gray.
- Mileage: 21 mpg combined drops to 20, and highway goes from 25 to 22 mpg.
- Headroom: 1.4 in. less up front (39.1 vs. 40.5 in.) and 1.1 in. less in back, with passenger volume falling from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
- Departure angle: 25.3° on the TrailSport vs. 27.1° on the RT-L, even though approach angle and clearance improve.
- Height: 74.5 in. vs. 73.1 in., which matters with a roof box or a low garage.
- Tire speed rating: T-rated all-terrains (113T) instead of H-rated all-seasons (110H).
- Weight: 198 lbs more (4,676 vs. 4,478 lbs).
Moving from TrailSport to Elite
- Orange ambient lighting gives way to white, though the steering wheel keeps orange stitching.
- The matte Shark Gray wheels are replaced by Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
- Curb weight rises 29 lbs to 4,705. Nothing functional goes away.
Adding Blackout
- The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
- $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.
What Each 2027 Passport Trim Includes
Each trim builds on the one before it. The RT-L list is the full standard kit; after that, we list only what's added.

Passport Trim vs. Trim
RT-L vs. RT-L Towing
$700 buys the factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel. Both are rated for 5,000 lbs, but the rating assumes proper hitch equipment. Towing requires hitch equipment, and the Towing version has it from the factory. If you'll ever pull a trailer to the Freeport launches and the Gulf or a campground, it's the simpler route.
RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport
Both have a factory hitch, and $4,100 separates them. The TrailSport adds the trail hardware (clearance, all-terrains, skid plates, TrailWatch) plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps real leather, a gray interior option and 3 more highway mpg.
TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite
This $3,700 step buys comfort only: perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Both have the same off-road hardware. If you spend hot afternoons in the car, the ventilated seats are the deciding feature.
TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite
These are $2,200 apart, and they answer different questions: do you want the darker look (Blackout) or the nicer cabin (Elite)?
TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout
$1,500 buys black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. Everything else is identical.
2027 Passport Changes
Higher TrailSport ride height
Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 9.6 in. of ground clearance (8.3 in. on the RT-L) and better approach, breakover and departure angles.
A new TrailSport face
Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.
More standard TrailSport equipment
TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, previously TrailSport Elite features, are now standard on the TrailSport.
Darker Blackout
Black front and rear fascias join the Blackout package's black wheels and badges.
Smoke Blue Pearl
A new blue replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl on all trims.
Pricing
MSRP rises $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.
How to Test-Drive a Passport in Brazoria County
A test drive tells you more than any feature list, if you know what to look for.
- Measure your garage door if you plan on a roof box. The TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall before you add anything up top.
- If you can, take both trims toward the Bluewater Highway. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
- Have us show you TrailWatch and the Multi-View cameras in the lot; they're most useful at tight trailheads and steep driveways.
- Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in during the drive so you're testing your own apps.
- Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
- On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
- Sit in the back seat of both. The TrailSport's moonroof costs about an inch of rear headroom; see if you notice.
- Merge onto Highway 288 or Highway 332 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
- Fold the 60/40 rear seat and load what you actually haul: a cooler, a stroller, a kayak paddle. You get 44 cu ft behind the rear seat.
What You Get Even on the RT-L
Even the $45,195 RT-L gets the full powertrain, the complete Honda Sensing suite and the same tech package as the TrailSport Elite.

How Big Is the 2027 Passport?
At 191.5 inches long the Passport fits a standard Brazoria County garage or driveway, and the TrailSport's 74.5-inch height still clears a 7-foot garage door. Add a roof box or bike rack and you'll want to measure first.

Passport Trim Questions, Answered
What trims does the 2027 Honda Passport come in?
Three: RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite. Honda also sells an RT-L Towing with a factory hitch and Blackout versions of both TrailSport trims, for six configurations in all.
What is the price of the 2027 Honda Passport?
The RT-L starts at $45,195 MSRP, the RT-L Towing at $45,895, the TrailSport at $49,995, the TrailSport Blackout at $51,495, the TrailSport Elite at $53,695 and the TrailSport Elite Blackout at $55,195. Destination is $1,595, and premium paint adds $455.
What is the difference between the Passport RT-L and TrailSport?
The TrailSport adds off-road hardware: an off-road-tuned suspension with 9.6 in. of ground clearance (vs. 8.3 in.), all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. It also adds a panoramic moonroof, heated steering wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L keeps leather-trimmed seats, a gray interior option and better fuel economy. The TrailSport costs $4,800 more.
Is the TrailSport Elite worth it?
It's worth it if comfort matters. For $3,700 over the TrailSport you get perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio with 12 speakers, second-row climate controls, a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing wipers and rear-door sunshades.
What does the RT-L Towing add?
A factory Class III trailer hitch with harness and hitch panel, for $700 over the RT-L. Nothing else changes.
What is the Passport Blackout package?
Offered on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite for $1,500, it adds black 18-inch alloy wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes. It doesn't change equipment or capability.
Does every 2027 Passport have all-wheel drive?
Yes. i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD is standard, with Trail Torque Logic and seven modes: Normal, ECON, Sport, Snow, Tow, Trail and Sand.
Which Passport trim should I get for driving around Brazoria County?
For paved drives like the Bluewater Highway, any Passport works, and the RT-L's all-season tires and mileage suit them. For the drive-on sand at Surfside Beach, the TrailSport's clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates are worth it.
Can the 2027 Passport tow a camper or boat?
Up to 5,000 lbs on any trim when properly equipped. The RT-L Towing and TrailSport trims come with a Class III hitch from the factory; premium fuel is recommended above 3,500 lbs.
Does the 2027 Passport TrailSport have leather seats?
No. The TrailSport uses HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth with orange stitching. The RT-L has leather-trimmed seats and the TrailSport Elite has perforated leather.
How many seats does the 2027 Passport have?
Five, in two rows. The Passport has no third row; the Honda Pilot is the three-row option.
Is the 2027 Passport TrailSport lifted?
It rides higher than the RT-L. Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 2027, giving 9.6 inches of ground clearance versus 8.3 inches on the RT-L.
What gas mileage does the 2027 Passport get?
The RT-L is EPA-rated at 19 city, 25 highway and 21 combined mpg. TrailSport trims are rated at 18 city, 22 highway and 20 combined. All run on regular unleaded fuel and have an 18.5-gallon tank.
What engine is in the 2027 Honda Passport?
Every trim uses a 3.5-liter direct-injected V6 rated at 280 hp and 258 lb-ft, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Which 2027 Passport trims have a heated steering wheel?
The TrailSport and TrailSport Elite. The heated wheel is new to the TrailSport for 2027 and isn't offered on the RT-L.

Yes, on every trim, along with Alexa Built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger.
Is the 2027 Passport different from the 2026?
Yes, mostly on TrailSport trims: a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of clearance, new front styling with amber hood lights, and TrailWatch plus a heated wheel on the TrailSport. Blackout adds black fascias, and Smoke Blue Pearl replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl.
How much cargo space does the 2027 Passport have?
